“The Science of Art and the Art of Science” Presentation April 19 - Ideas Worth Spreading
The Jefferson College Cultural Events and Outreach Committee will host TEDxJeffersonCollege on Thursday, April 19, in the Fine Arts Theatre on the Hillsboro campus using the theme “The Science of Art and the Art of Science.” Doors will open at 6 p.m. with videos and refreshments and the program will begin at 7 p.m.
The independently organized event, licensed by TED around the broad concepts of technology, entertainment and design, will feature student, faculty, and community presentations. Jefferson College is the only community college in the state of Missouri that currently participate in the nationwide program.
Speakers at TEDxJefferson College:
- Brandy Burgett, student, will discuss how she uses her photography to bring awareness to issues surrounding depression.
- Tracy Gomillion, Adjunct Sociology Instructor and Founder of the Willow Foundation, will discuss death rituals around the world.
- Wesley Whitfield, Associate Professor of Chemistry and musician, will present his original percussion composition inspired by the Periodic Table of Elements.
- Amy Hodge and Tracy Sitze, faculty and staff of Hillsboro Intermediate School, will discuss their students’ use of media and video production to help reach students in crisis.
The program will also feature videos from recent TED conferences and local performers.
