ATS Fire Science
Fire Science is a Seniors ONLY program. It it during the A.M. only.
The Fire Science Technology program introduces students to a career as a full-time or volunteer fire fighter.
Fire Fighter I and II covers fire protection characteristics, fire behavior, chemistry of fire, extinguishing agents, water supply, in-depth fire streams, auto extrication, and fire theory. Students will be eligible to take the Fire Fighter I and II State Certification Exams after successful completion of this course and Hazardous Materials Awareness and Operations. This will certify an Individual to the NFPA 1001-2008 Firefighter Professional Qualifications Standard. State Certification for Fire Fighter I and II is administered through the Missouri Division of Fire Safety at predetermined sites throughout Missouri. Applicants must be 18 years of age and have successfully completed the required course work. If applicants are not 18 years of age or miss the initial scheduled testing they will have one year from the completion of the course to take the test.
Students enrolled in a Career Education Program are expected to conduct themselves in a professional manner. Students must be able to follow instructions and work as a member of a team to achieve the course objectives. Students are expected to be accurate, have a positive attitude and maintain good attendance throughout the school year.
Instruction will involve both classroom and laboratory experiences with home study required.
Recommended High School Courses:
- General Science
- Biology and Chemistry
- Applied Math through Algebra
These are not established as pre-requisites. Students that have been successful in any of these courses have historically demonstrated a higher degree of success in this career education program.
