Jefferson College head softball coach Tony Cook enters his 12th season as the Vikings head coach in the 2018 season. Coach Cook, who has a 479-155 overall record in his eleven years of the program, he has led Jefferson to ten regular season tournament titles, ten conference titles and nine appearances in the Region XVI Championship game. In 2017, Cook led the Vikings (43-15) to their fifth straight MCCAC conference title.
During his eleven year tenure, Cook and his coaching staff have developed 72 All-Conference players, which include 53 All-MCCAC first team members, 66 All-Region players, including 48 of which were All-Region XVI first teams. In addition, his teams have produced sixteen All-NFCA Regional Team members, eight NJCAA All-Americans and ten NJCAA Academic All-Americans.
Cooks commitment to his players and their future, however, is his greatest accomplishment. He utilizes his experience and contacts to give players every opportunity to play at the next level-evidenced by 58 placements in the last eleven years.
Cook has over 25 years of softball coaching experience and previously coached high school softball for four years and was involved with several summer club programs, coaching both 16 and 18 year-old select teams.
Cook is a native of Jefferson County and he received his AS degree from Jefferson College and earned his BS-industrial Education from Southeast Missouri State University graduating Cum Laude. In addition to his duties as head softball coach, he is an Associate professor for the Area Technical School at Jefferson College. He and his wife, Mendy, have one daughter, Brandy, and reside in Herculaneum.
Assistant Softball Coach
Keri Schmidt enters her second season with Jefferson College after spending three seasons with St. Charles Community College as the assistant softball coach. Schmidt earned her Associates degree from Jefferson College and her Bachelor’s degree in Physical Education and Health from Bacone College in Muskogee, Okla.
Schmidt started her collegiate softball and academic career at Jefferson College. While at Jefferson College, she received All-Conference and All-Region accolades, as well as Academic All-Conference. After Jefferson College, Schmidt continued her last two softball seasons at Bacone College in Muskogee Oklahoma where her team finished second in their conference tournament both years. While at Bacone she received Academic All-Conference, and Who's Who awards.
For the last couple years Schmidt has also been an instructor with Fastpitch Masters Softball camps in Missouri and Oklahoma. Also, for the past two summers, she has been instructing young players in a T-ball instructional league in Maryland Heights.
