Advising

The student-athlete at Jefferson College has every opportunity to succeed both in the classroom and on the playing field. Of course, critical to maintaining athletic eligibility is the advising process where personal strengths and weaknesses must be identified. Our goal is for every student-athlete to achieve the necessary requirements for an Associates Degree and transfer to a four-year institution where they can choose to continue to compete.

However, we also realize each student learns at a different pace and has different career goals and aspirations. Therefore, selecting a major area of study is important, but it is equally important to make sure each student-athlete is progressing academically by improving their learning styles. Student Athlete Success has programs in place to help the at-risk student-athlete population and our most academically gifted when choosing what path is right for them. The student-athlete can feel comfortable asking questions and receiving the proper help in accomplishing their goals.

Study Hall Program

The Objective Based Study Hall Program was created to help student athletes set, work through and complete goals that are necessary components of time management and organizational skills that enhance student athlete academic success.

Students will have an opportunity to work in a classroom study environment featuring over 50 workstations along with smartboard technology for our peer and professional tutoring staff.  Our facility housing the evening study hall can hold an upwards of 70 individuals. In addition, students have the opportunity throughout the day to utilize the Library facilities for study hall.

Individual appointments typically last between ten to twenty minutes and are not just objective focused, but act as the student-athlete’s opportunity to address other personal and academic issues. Another key ingredient to overall student-athlete success is through our campus partnerships with the learning resources available. Students are encouraged to use the Math and Writing Labs as well as the Peer Tutoring Program offered through the campus Assessment Center to provide tutorial services in a wide variety of academic areas.
