Vikings Advance to JUCO World Series

The Jefferson College Vikings baseball team won the South Central District Championship over the weekend in Seminole, Oklahoma.  They defeated Delgado Community College (LA) & Seminole State (OK) on Friday by the scores of 12-1 and 7-1.  After losing Saturday to Delgado CC, the Vikings came back and won on Sunday by beating Delgado 19-4 to advance to the JUCO World Series in Grand Junction, Colorado.  This is the program's 4th ever trip to the national tournament and first since 2012.  The Vikings are currently ranked eighth nationally and have already tied the school record for wins with 53.  Jefferson will play Barton County on Saturday, May 26th at 3:00 pm Mountain time/4:00 pm Central time.  KJFF AM 1400 will broadcast the Jefferson College games live from Colorado, and the NJCAA will be live streaming games 1-17 at For more information on the visit JUCO World Series.

Vikings Win Region XVI Championship
The Jefferson College Viking baseball team won its 7th Region XVI Championship this past weekend in Joplin, MO by defeating Crowder College in the championship game 7-4.  This is the programs first Region Championship since 2012.  With the win over Crowder, the Vikings program reached the 50-win mark for the season.  Jefferson will now move on to the South Central District in Seminole, Oklahoma this weekend.  Jefferson will play Delgado Community College at 12:00 pm & Seminole State College at 3:30 pm.  KJFF 1400AM will broadcast all post-season games for the Vikings.

Six Vikings Earn All-Region Honors
Several Vikings were selected to the Region XVI All-Region team.  Selected to the 1st team, Joey Polak, Justin Perkins, and Jacob Kalusniak.  Earning 2nd team honors, Jason Rackers, Matt Turino, and Dalton Doyle.

Vikings Advance to Region XVI Tournament
The 11th ranked Jefferson College Vikings defeated Three Rivers Community College 11-4 & 25-8 to sweep the best of three Sub-Regional series.  The Region XVI Tournament begins Thursday in Joplin at Joe Becker Stadium.  Jefferson will play Mineral Area College in the first round of the double elimination tournament.  Jefferson enters as the #2 seed with an overall record of 47-9-1.

Vikings Reach 40 Wins for 3rd Consecutive Season
The 13th ranked Jefferson College Vikings baseball team took three of four game from Mineral Area College over the weekend to give them 40 wins on the season and clinch their 12th consecutive Missouri Community College Athletic Conference (MCCAC) Championship.  The Vikings now enter the final week of the regular season with non-conference games against Webster University JV and Kaskaskia College.  The Vikings will host a TBD opponent May 4th & 5th for the Sub-Regional.

Vikings Sweep Three Rivers to Open Region XVI Season

The Jefferson College Viking baseball team got off to a solid start in Region XVI play by sweeping Three Rivers Community College in a 4-games series.  Redshirt Freshman Joey Polak (Quincy, IL) led the offense with 9 hits (including 4 homeruns) for the 4-game series.  Freshman pitcher, Riley Boyd (El Dorado Springs, MO), had a complete game shutout to earn the win in game 2 of the series.  The Vikings host McKendree University JV on Tuesday before departing to Neosho, MO for a 4-game series with Crowder College.

Weather Changes Vikings Weekend Schedule

Unfortunately, wet weather in Mississippi forced the cancellation of the Vikings four game series at Meridian Community College.  Instead, the Vikings will host Rend Lake College in their home opener on Sunday.  First pitch of the doubleheader is scheduled for 12p.m. 

Vikings Open 2018 Season with Winning Road Trip

The Jefferson College Viking baseball team opened up their 2018 campaign this past weekend in Fayette, Alabama.  There was more good than bad for the Vikings.  The Vikings finished with two wins, one loss, and one tie (game called due to darkness).  The pitching staff shined opening weekend by striking out 51 batters in 27 innings.  Freshman infielder Dalton Doyle (Olathe, KS) had a successful debut by hitting .545 for the four game series along with 2 HR’s & 7 RBI’s. The team will travel to Meridian, Mississippi this weekend to play a series with Mississippi Delta Community College and Meridian Community College.

Vikings Open 50th Season on February 9th

The 2018 Vikings baseball team will open their 50th season in school history on February 9th vs. Beville State in Fayette, Alabama.  The Vikings are coming off a 2017 season which saw them win 45 games and earn their 11th consecutive Midwest Community College Conference Championship.  The Vikings enter the 2018 season ranked 23rd nationally in the Perfect Game USA Pre-Season Junior College Poll.  For the 2018 opening weekend the Vikings will play four games over the course of three days vs. Bevill State, St. Louis CC, and Jackson State. 

50 years of Jefferson College Baseball on Saturday, January 27th

When the Vikings open up the 2018 season on February 9th it will mark the 50th season Jefferson College has participated as an NJCAA program.  Alumni and supporters of the baseball program celebrated 50 years of “JeffCo” on Saturday, January 27th at the Fox Run Carriage House in Eureka, Missouri.  Over the course of 50 years the Vikings have established itself as not only a premier college program in the Midwest but across the Nation. View photos from the event.


Annual Exposure Camp Scheduled for February 4th

The 22nd Annual Jefferson College Baseball Exposure Camp is scheduled for February 4th.  This annual event will provide high school student-athletes an opportunity to showcase themselves in front of the Jefferson College coaching staff.  Several other 2-year and 4-year colleges will be in attendance as well.  Registration is open and limited to the first 75 registered.  Feel free to email Head Coach Patrick Evers for any questions at Download the registration form.

Six sophomores made their commitments to continue their academic and athletic careers with 4-year institutions.

Since 2015 the Viking baseball program has sent 53 players onto 4-year institutions with a total of 32 signing to play at the NCAA Division-I level. 

Green Commits to University of Missouri
Sophomore Anthony Green recently made his commitment to the University of Missouri for his junior season.  Green was a two-way player for the Vikings making contributions both at the plate and on the mound.  This is the second consecutive year a Viking has committed to Mizzou, he will follow former Viking pitcher Cody Siebenberger who committed to the Tigers last season.  Green is the second Viking from the 2018 team to commit to an NCAA Division-I school.

Sam Stewart Commits to Oral Roberts University 
Sophomore infielder/pitcher Sam Stewart (Granville, OH) recently committed to Oral Roberts University.  He is the first member of the Vikings to commit to a 4-year school.  Oral Roberts is an NCAA Division-I institution that competes in the Summit League and has made three consecutive NCAA Regional appearances.      

2017 Fall Showcase Camp Results - October 15

Vikings Set to Begin Fall Season

The Jefferson College baseball team is set to begin its Fall season.  The Vikings are scheduled to play on various dates through September and October.  The Vikings finished the 2017 season with a final record of 45-14 and claimed their eleventh consecutive Midwest Community College Athletic Conference Championship.  Seventeen players from the 2017 team signed with 4-year institutions, including thirteen signing with an NCAA Division-I institution.  The 2018 Fall schedule includes games at Busch Stadium on September 10th and will play the University of Evansville on September 16th.  It will mark the 3rd consecutive year the Vikings will have played an NCAA Division-I school in the Fall.

2017 Showcase Camp Results

Viking Alum Signs Professional Contract 
A former Viking recently signed a professional contract with the River City Rascals of the Frontier League (Independent).  Trent Leimkuehler (Borgia HS) played for the Vikings in 2013 and 2014 before transferring to Saint Louis University.  Leimkuehler was an All-Region & All-Conference player for the Vikings and earned Atlantic-10 All-Conference honors this past year for the Billikens.

Former, Current, and Incoming Vikings Selected in MLB Draft  
The Jefferson College Viking baseball program was on display during the 2017 Major League Baseball Amateur Draft.  A total of five players with connections to the Vikings were selected, three former players, one current player, and one incoming recruit.  When sophomore, Troy Newell (Francis Howell Central), was selected by the Texas Rangers in the 33rd round I, it marked the 9th consecutive year a Viking was selected.  Former players Doug Still (Sikeston, MO), Anthony Herron (Affton HS), and Justin Paulsen (CBC HS) were all drafted out of Missouri State University.  Still and Herron played their first two seasons of college baseball with the Vikings (2015 & 2016) while Paulsen went to Missouri State after his freshman season with the Vikings in 2014.

Viking Alum Signs Professional Contract

Three Vikings Earn All-Region Honors
The tradition of earning post-season awards continues with three Vikings earning All-Region honors.  Sophomore’s Troy Newell, Cole Bornhop, and Ryan Mantle all were selected to the All-Region team.  Newell went 11-1 on the mound for the Vikings with a 1.40 ERA.  Newell will be moving on to Western Kentucky University.  Cole Bornhop was a unanimous selection as catcher, Bornhop hit .331 on the season with 8 HR’s and handled a pitching staff that was among the best nationally in several categories.  Bornhop will be playing at Southeast Missouri State University next season.  Ryan Mantle earned All-Region honors as an infielder.  Mantle led the Vikings batting .370 with a team high 11 HR’s, he will be attending Creighton University for his junior season.

Another Viking Makes Commitment
Right-handed pitcher Jacob Voss recently made his commitment to continue his baseball and academic career at Creighton University.  Voss was dominant in his role out of the bullpen for the Vikings with 37 K’s in only 17.1 IP.  Voss will be joining his teammates Jordan Hovey and Ryan Mantle at Creighton, which competes in the Big East Conference.  Voss is the 11th Viking from the 2017 roster to commit to an NCAA Division-I institution.

Vikings Fall in Region XVI Championship
The top-seeded Jefferson College Vikings started off the Region XVI Tournament on the wrong foot. The Vikings lost their opening round game verse Mineral Area College, but were able to rebound and win their next three games against St. Louis CC, Mineral Area College, and Crowder College to force the (if needed) championship game.  Unfortunately, the Vikings ran out of gas and lost to Crowder College in the final game of the tournament 17-6.  Although the Vikings fell short of their goals, the team finished with a 45-14 overall record and won their 11th consecutive Midwest Community College Athletic Conference Championship. 

Vikings Capture 11th Consecutive Conference Title
The Jefferson College baseball team earned its 11th consecutive Midwest Community College Athletic Conference Championship after sweeping a doubleheader last week vs. Mineral Area College.  The Vikings finished the regular season with a record of 16-2 in conference and 40-12 overall.  This marks back to back 40-win seasons for the Vikings and their 5th season of 40+ wins in the last 8 years.

Siebenberger Commits to Mizzou
Redshirt-Freshman pitcher/outfielder Cody Siebenberger (Freeburg, IL) recently committed to the University of Missouri to continue his baseball and academic career.  He will be the 7th Viking to commit to the Tigers since 2010.  He is the 8th player from the 2017 Vikings to commit to an NCAA Division-I institution.

Former Viking Earns Pitcher of the Week Honors
Former Viking pitcher, Pat Schnieders, earned Missouri Valley Conference Pitcher of the Week Honors for his performance on the mound this past Saturday.  Schnieders, currently a senior at University of Evansville, pitched 5 innings of hitless baseball while striking out 11 batters in their game vs. University of Central Arkansas.

Two Sophomores Earn Pre-Season Recognition
Sophomores Spencer Juergens (Washington, MO) and Ryan Mantle (Linn, MO) were recognized by Perfect Game as being one of the Top 100 Junior College Prospects for the 2017 MLB Draft.  Juergens is committed to the University of Houston for his junior season and Mantle is committed to Creighton University.  The Vikings open the 2017 season on February 11th in Millington, Tennessee.

Seventh Viking Makes Commitment
Sophomore outfielder Ryan Fish (Oak Park, IL) signed with University of Texas — Rio Grande Valley (UTRGV) on the final day of the NCAA early signing period.  UTRGV is an NCAA Division-I Institution that plays in the Western Athletic Conference.  Fish is the 7th member of the 2016-2017 Vikings to sign with an NCAA Division-I institution. 


Two More Vikings Make Their Commitments

Sophomore pitcher Gunnar Kay (Arlington Heights, IL) recently committed to continue his baseball and academic career at University of Illinois-Springfield.  Sophomore first-baseman/catcher, Matt Brown (Vianney HS), committed to Missouri State University.  With Kay and Brown’s commitments the Vikings now have 16 of their players committed to 4-year schools with 10 committed to NCAA Division-I institutions.

Vikings Season Comes to an End
The Jefferson College baseball season came to an end over the weekend.  The #1 seeded Vikings dropped their first game 10-2 vs St. Louis Community College and were eliminated by Crowder College by a score of 5-4.  It was an unfortunate ending to a season that was very successful overall.  The 2016 season included winning 40+ games for the first time since 2012, a 10th consecutive Midwest Community College Conference Championship, and earning the #1 seed for the Region XVI Tournament.  

Vikings Move on to Joplin
The Jefferson College Viking baseball team won the first two games in the best of three Sub-Regional series verse St. Charles CC.  The Vikings won game one 11-0 behind a 1-hit shutout by sophomore Anthony Herron (Affton HS).  In game 2 of the series, the Vikings trailed St. Charles CC 8-1 after some defensive miscues.  The Vikings offense was able to chip away and the Vikings ended up winning 21-13.  Carter Hanford (Pattonville HS) was the leader on offense, hitting 3 home runs and contributing 9 RBI’s.  The Vikings will now play St. Louis CC at 4pm Thursday in Joplin. View the Region XVI Baseball Championship Bracket.

Vikings Prepare for Post-Season Play
The Jefferson College Viking baseball team has earned the #1 seed for the Region XVI Tournament for the 5th time in the last 7 seasons.  They will play host to St. Charles CC in a best of three series Friday May 6th and Saturday May 7th to advance to the 4-team Regional held in Joplin, Missouri.  The Vikings finished the regular season with a record of 39-16, earning a 10th straight MCCAC Championship. 

Two More Vikings Make Commitments
Two sophomore’s recently committed to 4-year institutions, this will make the 13th and 14th commitments off the current 2016 roster.  Outfielder Matt Scheibel (Marquette HS) recently committed to Maryville University (NCAA Division-II) of the Great Lakes Valley Conference (GLVC).  Infielder Tyler Muehling (Ft. Zumwalt South) recently committed to Lindenwood University (NCAA Division-II) of the Mid-America Intercollegiate Athletic Association (MIAA). 

Vikings Secure 10th Consecutive MCCAC Championship
The Jefferson College Viking baseball team secured its 10th consecutive Midwest Community College Athletic Conference Championship with a 4-game sweep of St. Charles Community College over the weekend.  The Vikings current record stands at 34-15 and 19-5 in Region XVI.  The Vikings are scheduled to travel to North Central Missouri College this weekend for their final region series of the season.  The Viking will host a Sub-Regional May 6th and 7th, their opponent is yet to be determined.

Another Vikings Makes a Commitment
Sophomore pitcher Nick Hooper (Willard, MO) recently committed to continue his baseball and educational career at Lubbock Christian University (LCU).  Hooper will be joining former Viking catcher, Chase Simmons, at LCU.  Lubbock Christian is an NCAA Division II institution that plays in the Heartland Conference.  With Hooper’s commitment, 12 current Vikings have committed to 4-year institutions.

Vikings Have Successful Home Stand
The Viking baseball team recently completed an 8-game home stand in which they finished 7-1.  The Vikings enter their upcoming spring trip with an 8-7 record.  The team returns to action this weekend in Emerson, Georgia for 5 games at the Perfect Game Lake Point Facility.

Another Viking Commits to Missouri State
Redshirt freshman infielder, Keith Grieshaber, recently committed to Missouri State University for next season.  He will be joining current teammates, Anthony Herron & Doug Still, who committed to Missouri State in the fall.  He is the 11th player off this year’s roster to commit to a 4-year institution and the 9th to commit to an NCAA Division-I school.

Harper Commits to University of Illinois-Springfield
Sophomore infielder Drew Harper (Sikeston, MO) recently committed to continue his career at NCAA Division-II University of Illinois-Springfield.  He is the 10th player on the 2016 Viking roster to commit to a 4-year institution. 

Three Vikings Earn Pre-Season Recognition
Perfect Game recently came out with their Top 150 Junior College Prospect List and three Vikings made that list.  Pitchers Anthony Herron (Affton HS) & Doug Still (Sikeston, MO) were ranked 52nd and 81st respectively.  Infielder Keith Grieshaber (Marquette HS) was ranked 106th.

Former Viking Earns Pre-Season All-American Honors
”‹Former Jefferson College Viking, Ryan Rippee (Springfield, MO), recently was named to the 2016 Louisville Slugger Pre-Season All-American Team.  Rippee is currently a senior at Southeast Missouri State, where he led the team in homerun’s and RBI’s last season.  Rippee earned second team All-Conference (Ohio Valley) honors as a junior.  Rippee was drafted in the 31st Round of the 2013 MLB Amateur Draft by the Boston Red Sox after his freshman season at Jefferson College.

Nine Vikings Commit in Early Signing Period
Nine more Vikings have recently made commitments to continue their college baseball careers at the 4-year level.  This brings the total number of baseball players to sign with NCAA Division-I institutions to 36 over the last 3 ½ years.  Several more players will be committing during and after the 2016 season.

Baseball Field Undergoes Makeover
There are some changes that have been ongoing this fall at the Jefferson College Baseball Field.  The field has seen some of the largest changes it has undergone in the last 30+ years.  Some of the projects that have taken place this fall:

  1. Installation of new backstop w/suspended netting system

  2. Replacement of retaining wall on 1st base seating area

  3. New padding/protective netting on dugout railings

  4. Installation of turf home plate halo and walk-ups

All of these projects should be completed by the end of November.

Former Vikings Earn Minor League Promotions
Former Viking shortstop, Brett Wiley, was recently promoted from High-A Palm Beach Cardinals to Double-A Springfield Cardinals.  Wiley was a 13th Round Draft Pick by the St. Louis Cardinals in 2012.  He was an integral part of the Vikings 2012 JUCO World Series team, he is currently in his 4th season of professional baseball.

Former Viking outfielder, Gerrion Grim, was also recently promoted from the Gulf Coast League Orioles to the Aberdeen Ironbirds of the New York-Penn League.  Grim was a 14th Round Draft Pick by the Baltimore Orioles in 2014.

Bouman Signs with River City Rascals
Former Viking pitcher Kyle Bouman (DeSmet HS) recently signed a professional contract with the River City Rascals of the Independent Frontier League.  Bouman pitched for the Vikings in 2013 before finishing his collegiate career at Louisiana State University.

Vikings Commit to 4-year Schools
Sophomore catcher Todd Hinkley (Liberty, MO) recently committed to NCAA Division-I McNeese State University to continue his college baseball career.  McNeese State is located in Lake Charles, Louisiana and competes in the Southland Conference. 

Sophomore infielder Nate Green (Francis Howell) committed to NCAA Division-II University of Hawaii-Hilo.  Hawaii-Hilo competes in the Pacific West Conference. 

With these two recent commitments, 9 Viking players from the 2015 team will be moving on to 4-year schools. 

Freshman Pitcher Doug Still is Drafted by the Atlanta Braves
Freshman left-handed pitcher, Doug Still (Sikeston, MO), was selected in the 30th Round of the Major League Baseball Amateur Draft by the Atlanta Braves.  Still went 5-2 for the Vikings in 44 innings pitched.  Still’s last start of the year turned out to be his best, a complete game shutout in the elimination bracket of the Region XVI Tournament. The Vikings have had a player drafted every single year since 2007.  In fact, the Vikings have had 19 players since 2008 either get drafted or sign a professional contract.

Hickey Commits to Southern Illinois University - Edwardsville
Sophomore pitcher DJ Hickey (Timberland HS) recently made a commitment to pitch for Southern Illinois University - Edwardsville.  Hickey was a mainstay in the Vikings bullpen this year.  He will again be teammates with former Viking pitcher, Ryan Agnitsch, who is currently a junior at SIU - Edwardsville.

Vikings Earn Ninth Consecutive Conference Championship
The Jefferson College Viking baseball team earned its ninth consecutive conference championship after sweeping its final conference/region series with St. Charles Community College.  The Viking are in the midst of preparing for the Region XVI tournament in Farmington, Missouri.  The Vikings will be the #1 seed going into the tournament.

Sophomore pitcher Chandler Wolf (Russellville, MO) recently committed to the University of Central Missouri. 

Simmons Commits to Lubbock Christian University
Sophomore catcher Chase Simmons (Kelso, MO) recently committed to continue his collegiate baseball career at NCAA Division II Lubbock Christian University.  Chase graduated from Notre Dame High School in Cape Girardeau, Missouri.  Chase is also a “Student Leader” on campus.

Caleb Hicks makes commitment to Murray State University
Freshman infielder Caleb Hicks recently committed to Murray State University.  Hicks is expected to be the Vikings 3rd freshman in the last year to sign with an NCAA Division-I school.  Last season, both Justin Paulsen and Patrick Schnieders signed with Missouri State University and University of Evansville after their freshman year with the Vikings.  The Vikings open up the 2015 season February 13th in Meridian, Mississippi.

Brady Womacks makes commitment to Oral Roberts University
Current Viking pitcher Brady Womacks (Herculaneum, MO) committed to continue his baseball career at Oral Roberts University.  Womacks become the 13th Viking pitcher in the last three years to commit to a Division-I school.

Matt Stites finishes his rookie season with Arizona Diamondbacks
Former Jefferson College Viking pitcher Matt Stites (Festus, MO) finished off a successful rookie season with the Arizona Diamondbacks.  Stites became the 7th former Viking to make his MLB debut when he pitched in relief for the Diamondbacks on June 19th.  Stites finished the season with a 5.73 ERA in 33 innings pitched along with 26 strikeouts.  The former Festus High School and Festus Post 253 star pitched for the Vikings in 2009-2010 before continuing his career at the University of Missouri.  Stites was the Region XVI Player of the Year and was an NJCAA All-American in 2010.

Former Viking finding success in professional baseball
Former Viking pitcher Justin Sprenger (Washington, MO) is currently finishing of his second full season of professional baseball and it has been a successful one.  Sprenger, who pitched for the Vikings in 2010 & 2011, is currently playing in the post season for the Myrtle Beach Pelicans (Texas Rangers affiliate) of the Advanced-A Carolina League. Over his last 10 appearances, Sprenger has a 0.98 ERA in 18 inning pitched along with 18 strikeouts. 

Tyler Thomson added to coaching staff
Another former Viking has been added to the Viking coaching staff, Tyler Thompson has been added to assist with the Viking pitching staff.  Thompson pitched for the Vikings in 2011 & 2012 before transferring to Missouri State University.  Thompson won 21 games in his “JeffCo” career and helped lead the Viking to back to back JUCO World Series appearances and a school record with 53 wins in 2012.  Thompson signed a professional contract with the Gateway Grizzlies of the Frontier League this past June.

Former Viking Drew Stanton added to coaching staff
Drew Stanton was hired as the new assistant baseball coach and recruiting coordinator for the Vikings.  Prior to taking the position at Jefferson College, Stanton was an assistant coach at Arkansas Tech University.  Stanton finished his playing career with the Vikings in 2011 and went on to play at Arkansas Tech.  During playing career with the Vikings, Stanton was voted team Most Valuable Player for the 2011 JUCO World Series team.  Stanton will be working with the Vikings hitters and catchers primarily.

Alumni News
Former Viking Jake Luce is having a successful professional season with the Wichita Wingnuts of the Independent American Association.  Jake is currently the second leading hitter on the Wingnuts with a .345 batting average.  Jake played for the Vikings in 2009 & 2010 before continuing his college career at Elon University.

Fred Ford was recently promoted from Single-A Lexington Legends of South Atlantic League to Advanced-A Wilmington Blue Rocks.  Fred is currently in his 3rd season of professional baseball.  He was a 7th Round draft pick by the Kansas City Royals in 2012.
