Fund-A-Future
Securing scholarships for students is one of the Jefferson College Foundation's primary responsibilities. Our scholarship program is intended to provide support for the traditional and non-traditional student in a variety of Jefferson College programs. Without this type of support, many students would not be able to attend college and achieve the life-enhancing goal of receiving a higher education. Today more than ever, there is a need for student scholarship support. Many Jefferson College students are first-generation college students who are balancing a job, family and career preparation. Scholarship support not only helps with tuition and college expenses — it demonstrates that someone believes in them — and their ability to succeed in college. You can designate a contribution to an existing scholarship, or create a new one in your name or in honor of someone else. Your tax-deductible donation to the Foundation provides the support our hard-working, dedicated students need to keep his or her life on track. At Jefferson College, students who ask for help get the help they need! Contributions to the Jefferson College Foundation's Annual Appeal truly has a positive impact on the lives of our students. Make a profound difference -- Establish a new scholarship or donate to an existing scholarship...today! There are two types of scholarships that can be established with the Jefferson College Foundation, which are Annual Named or Endowed Named. An Annual Named Scholarship may be established with a minimum gift of $2,500. The fund must maintain a $2,500 balance each year through annual gifts as the funds are distributed. A Endowed Named Scholarship, however, requires a minimum gift of $35,000, which can be paid all at once or through pledge payments over a period of five years, if so desired. However, is you wish to support an existing scholarship fund, you may do so with a gift of any amount. While Annual Named Scholarships provide immediate support to students, Endowed Named Scholarships accrue interest and only the interest is awarded for scholarships each year, leaving the principal in-tact indefinitely. Jefferson College Foundation is a 501(c)3 organization, therefore, 100% of cash contributions are tax deductible.
No matter which type of scholarship a donor chooses to establish, the donor decides what qualifications a student must possess to qualify. For example, they may designate a specific graduating school district, traditional or non-traditional student, level of financial need, grade point average, etc. There is an area on the Scholarship Covenant Form in which the donor may establish these criteria. If you decide to move forward with establishing a scholarship, please print our Scholarship Covenant Form and fill it out completely. Return it with your check made payable to Jefferson College Foundation, or call (636) 481-3104 to schedule an appointment in which to deliver your gift, and perhaps take a photo for media announcements. Every gift, in any amount, makes a difference. The following are actual excerpts from letters received by the Jefferson College Foundation from our scholarship recipients. These sentiments reveal the deep appreciation for help offered through the generosity of scholarship donors. Here are a few of their stories. Six years after dropping out of high school, this young man, independent and determined to make something of himself, began a course of study at Jefferson College; however, the high cost of medical bills due to diabetes added financial obstacles threatening the completion of his studies. He wrote:
Additional financial obligations almost caused a young woman to quit in the final semester of achieving her associate’s degree. She received $500 from the Jefferson College Foundation, which was enough to relieve this ill-timed crisis. She wrote:
Financial worries cause people to become distracted from things that help them in the long-run. To a single mother trying to improve herself, several hundred dollars is the difference between continuing her education or not. One student from our nursing program wrote:
When this woman’s financial woes were mounting, donors like you helped the Jefferson College Foundation come to her rescue. She wrote:
